Someone you know uses Sotera, an app that lets people share their journey home with people they trust. They chose you as one of those people and gave us your phone number, so we can let you know when they set off and when they arrive safely.
You don't need the app or an account. The map link in the message works in any browser and stops working when their journey ends.
To stop these messages, reply STOP. You don't have to give a reason, and we'll let them know you've opted out.
Just your name and phone number, as given to us by the person who added you — their name is in the message you received. We use them only to send messages about that person's journeys. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest, and theirs, in them travelling safely (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)); in a genuine emergency we may also rely on protecting someone's vital interests (Art. 6(1)(d)).
We never use your number for marketing, sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to suggest connections.
Your number goes to Twilio (United States), who deliver the WhatsApp or SMS message, and is stored by Supabase in the European Union. International transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses. We keep your number until the person removes you or deletes their account, then delete it within 30 days. If you reply STOP we keep only the minimum needed to make sure we don't message you again.
You can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability — and you have the right to object to us using your number at all. You may also complain to the CNPD (cnpd.pt) or the data-protection authority where you live.
