Terms of Service

Who you're agreeing with. Sotera is operated by Unifiltered LLC, 8 The Green, Suite R, Dover, DE 19901, United States. These terms are an agreement between you and Unifiltered LLC. Contact: support@unifiltered.app.

1. Sotera is not an emergency service. Sotera does not contact emergency services and is not a substitute for calling 112 (or your local emergency number). Sotera notifies the people you choose. It cannot guarantee that an alert will be sent, delivered, seen, or acted on — even if the app shows your journey as active and connected. Delivery depends on mobile signal, battery, your phone's power-saving settings, carrier and messaging-provider availability, and on your contacts noticing. Location on the map may be delayed or inaccurate, especially indoors, underground, or in poor signal. Sotera supports a personal safety plan; it does not replace one. In an emergency, call 112 (EU) or 911 (US) directly.

Sotera is an automated software tool. There is no human monitoring team: no one at Sotera watches journeys, reviews alerts, or dispatches help, and nothing in these terms or in the app creates a duty for us to monitor a journey or to detect, intervene in, or respond to any incident. Alerts come from automated analysis that can be wrong in both directions — it can flag a perfectly normal journey, and it can miss a real problem entirely. Using Sotera does not make any journey safe, and you remain responsible for your own safety decisions.

2. Journeys happen in the real world

Sotera is not affiliated with Uber, Bolt, Lyft, taxi companies, public-transport operators, or any other transport provider, and we do not vet, employ, or control drivers, vehicles, or any person you may encounter during a journey. Choosing to travel — and with whom — is your decision. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the acts or omissions of transport providers, drivers, other passengers, or any other third party, or for any harm that occurs during a journey; monitoring a journey does not make us a party to your transport or a guarantor of your safety.

Ride details Sotera reads from a screenshot (car model, licence plate, driver name) are relayed exactly as your ride app displayed them; we cannot verify them. Always check the car and plate against the ride app yourself before getting in.

3. Accepting these terms, and who may use Sotera

By creating an account you agree to these terms. You must be at least 13, and old enough to consent to online services where you live. If you are under 18, you confirm a parent or guardian knows you use Sotera and permits it; they may contact us to close your account.

4. Your account

Your phone number is your identity. Keep access to it secure, and keep your contacts' numbers accurate — a wrong number means alerts go nowhere.

5. Trusted contacts — your responsibility

Only add someone who has agreed to it. By adding a trusted contact you confirm you know them personally, have their permission to give us their number, and have told them they may receive messages showing your location. They can opt out at any time by replying STOP, and we will tell you if they do.

6. Acceptable use

You may only use Sotera to share your own location, with people you choose, of your own free will. You must not use Sotera to monitor, track or control another person, install it on someone else's device, or pressure anyone into sharing their location. We suspend accounts used this way, and we always act on a trusted contact's request to be removed. Do not use Sotera unlawfully, send false emergencies, attempt to reach other users' data, or interfere with the service.

7. Availability

Sotera is free. We may change or discontinue parts of it, and may add paid features later, but we will not remove core safety functionality from existing users without notice.

8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law Sotera is provided "as is", without warranties of fitness, reliability, accuracy or uninterrupted availability. To the fullest extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for an undelivered, delayed or incorrect message, for a failure to detect a deviation or non-arrival, for the acts or omissions of a trusted contact, transport provider, driver or any other third party, or for network, device or third-party service failures. Where liability cannot be excluded it is limited to the greater of €100 or the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months.

What no clause can do. Nothing above excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer in the EEA or the UK, your mandatory legal rights are unaffected by these terms.

9. Indemnity and ending your use

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of Sotera or your breach of these terms, including adding a trusted contact without their consent; this does not apply to consumers in the EEA or the UK. You may delete your account at any time; we may suspend accounts that breach these terms.

10. SMS and WhatsApp notifications

Sotera sends automated journey notifications (journey started, arrival, safety alerts) by WhatsApp or SMS to the trusted contacts a user adds. Message frequency varies with journey activity. Message and data rates may apply. Recipients may cancel at any time by replying STOP; reply HELP or email support@unifiltered.app for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Mobile numbers and consent records are used solely to deliver these notifications and are never shared for marketing purposes.

11. Changes

We may update these terms and will notify you in the app of material changes before they take effect.

12. Governing law and disputes

If you live in the EEA or the UK: nothing in these terms deprives you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country.

If you live in the United States: these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware. You and Unifiltered LLC agree to resolve any dispute that cannot be settled informally by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and each of us waives the right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court. You can opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@unifiltered.app within 30 days of creating your account. Before starting arbitration, email us first — most concerns can be fixed directly.

Everywhere else: Delaware law applies to the extent your local mandatory consumer rules allow.
